Both Atarax(hydroxyzine hcl) and Vistaril(pam) do the same thing, but it depends on how your body reacts to it; one may work better than the other. This medication comes in different forms such as tablets, capsules, liquid, suppositories, or injections. It can also be taken with or without food. Patients who suffers from either anxiety, hives, nausea, mood disorders, skin rashes, itching, and also allergic reactions can be prescribed to hydroxyzine. This medication can be prescribed to Children ages 4+ and also adults. Hydroxyzine can only be obtained by prescriptions only; cannot be purchased OTC. Just about every drug has some side effects and Hydroxyzine is no different. Here are some of the common side effects: drowsiness, dry mouth, skin rash, headaches, and blurred vision.
