Do You Have a Child
with Emotional or Behavioral Difficulties?

NAMI Basics for Parents Class provides Education and Support for You, Your Family, and Your Child

FREE, six week course offered for parents or family caregivers of school-age children and adolescents with mental health issues.

Classes include:

Understanding the illnesses that are causing the behavioral difficulties
The biology of mental illness; getting an accurate diagnosis—, anxiety disorders, depression, ADD, ODD, OCD, childhood bipolar disorder, and others
Tools for the toolbox – communication skills, problem solving, crisis preparation, handling challenging behaviors, and the impact on family members
Record keeping and dealing with the systems your child is involved in school, mental health, and juvenile justice
Taught by trained teachers who are also the parents of children with emotional or behavioral difficulties

NAMI Basics for Parents Class provides Education and Support for You, Your Family, and Your Child with Mental Health Issues

FREE, seven-week course offered for parents/caregivers of school age children and adolescents with mental health issues.

Classes include:
Introduction – it’s not your fault; these mental health issues are
brain disorders
The biology of mental illness; getting an accurate diagnosis —, anxiety disorders, depression, ADD, ODD, OCD, childhood bipolar disorder, and others
Treatment works – an overview of treatment options
Tools for the toolbox – communication skills, problem solving, crisis preparation and response, handling challenging behaviors, relapse planning, and impact on family members
Record keeping and dealing with the systems your child is involved in – school, mental health,and juvenile justice

Offered Spring 2016

Saturday Mornings, 9:00—11:30 am, April 16th through
May 21st, at the Chicago Behavioral Hospital,

2015 Family To Family Refresher Course NAMI CCNS

Family to Family Refresher Class, Two – 4 week sessions, Oct – Nov

NAMI CCNS will offer two four-week refresher courses to only alumni of the NAMI signature courses mentioned above. As many of you were empowered in the past by the Family to Family and/or Basics courses, we know a refresher of this invaluable information will be very helpful.

The class will review Crisis, Empathy, Problem Solving, Communication, and Recovery, plus offer the support of being with people just like you.

Tuesday evenings, Oct 6 – Oct 27, or

Tuesday evenings, Nov 3 – Dec 1 (off Nov 24)

7:00-9:30 pm,

at New Trier Northfield High School, 7 Happ Rd, Northfield
