To The Left & Right with John Silva – One Marine’s Story of Tragedy & Triumph – Veterans Support Group

Published by Courtney Hall

Nothing ever truly prepares a person for combat or the hardships of military life. Soldiers quickly learn that they need each other more than anything! They fight for each other and die for each other. Bonds solidify and men stand side-by-side and shoulder-to-shoulder. Soldiers survive because of these bonds in battle, but back in the civilian world these bonds are often lost and the wandering begins. This is a story of John Silva and of veterans finding those strong bonds again and overcoming them together!

John Silva was no different and it’s veteran support groups like the one John attends where soldiers find those common bonds again. Listen to John’s story of being a Marine, serving our country in Beruit, Lebanon and the tragedy of Camp Lejeune’s water contamination.

The Veterans Support group that John attends is near Chicago, to the North, in a town called Northbrook, IL. If you or a loved one would like to attend, we’re here with open arms. It’s in support groups like these where soldiers can begin to heal deep wounds left by service to our country. It comes at a great cost to serve, but brotherhood is truly the gift. It’s in these bonds that the National Alliance on Mental Illness’ Veterans Support Group lives.

We are also open to having Gold Star Family members attend the group as we’ve seen deep healing happen and new families created between veterans and families of our fallen heroes.
