This free NAMI support group is designed to assist Illinoisans who are grappling with the emotional aftermath of Monday’s Highland Park tragedy or other violent event, and who are not living with a diagnosed mental health concern. (If you are living with a mental health concern, please check out the special NAMI Connection sessions organized on the same days.)

The trauma associated with a violent event can impact any one of us, at any time, regardless of whether we have a direct personal connection to the specific event. In times like these, it is more than OK not to be OK. That is why NAMI has organized this free and confidential virtual support group for any Illinoisan who wants or needs support.

Please note: NAMI support groups are not a substitute for therapy from a professional clinician, nor are they a forum for political advocacy about gun violence or mental health. Support groups are a confidential place where you can share your own experiences in a safe and non-judgmental setting, with facilitation by trained volunteers who have experienced similar issues and who understand trauma. The group setting encourages empathy, dialogue, and community, while helping you discover your own inner strength.

All meetings are confidential. The information you share is used for facilitation only and is not disclosed to any other party. At your discretion, you may choose to share your contact information only with your local NAMI affiliate.

Registration is required no later than 4:30 PM the day of the event. Confidential call-in information will be provided by 5pm the day of event.  If you have difficulties registering, please contact Support@namiillinois.org
