This talk will provide a basic overview of the diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) aka “clinical depression”, an overview of the current FDA approved treatments for MDD, and recent advances in depression treatment research. The objective of the talk is to provide clinicians, patients, and loved ones a better understanding of the potential benefits, adverse effects, and realistic expectations that one should have regarding treatment options for depression. Expanding your knowledge base on this topic will hopefully provide opportunities to better advocate for yourself, your patients, or loved ones.

Speaker’s Bio

Dr. Andrew Kim is a board-certified psychiatrist and principal investigator (lead physician overseeing clinical research trials) who currently works at Pillar Clinical Research, in Lincolnwood, IL. Pillar Clinical Research is a privately owned research center that specializes in conducted psychiatric research trials in the areas of Major Depressive Disorder, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, and addictions. Dr. Kim graduated from UIC medical school, attended his psychiatric residency in Boston at Harvard Psychiatry, and has participated in 70 psychiatric clinical research studies.
