Research has shown that a “one-size-fits-all” approach to health problems interventions, including mental health, will be effective for only a segment of those who suffer. We have considered the best practices in mental health treatments and now offer, in addition to peer-led programs and support groups, therapies that are proving to be very successful and for different groups of people.
NAMI CCNS now offers equine therapy for individuals and families dealing with mental health concerns. This therapy offers an alternative to talk therapy and gives individuals insights and skills for handling a wide range of challenges. Horses have unique abilities to communicate and connect with humans and to teach us new ways to understand ourselves and regulate self-defeating behaviors. Led by licensed social workers and a psychologist, small group therapies are provided at Equestrian Connections through a partnership with NAMI CCNS.
